Provides administrative leadership and direction for the Main and Garfield Campus Libraries and the Learning Center. Library programs include collection development, information competency instruction, public services, reference services, and technical services. The Learning Center includes the tutorial center, the writing center, and the computer-assisted instruction lab. Develops and implements the strategic vision for the Library and the Learning Center, oversees budget and resource planning, policy and program development, operations and personnel.
Examples of Duties:
Provides administrative leadership and long-range planning and development for the Library and the Learning Center.
Plans, organizes, manages, implements, directs, and evaluates the operations and activities of the Library and the Learning Center, including programs, collections, resources, and services.
Oversees the development and delivery of learning center services and library reference, circulation and instructional services.
Develops and prepares the departmental budgets, authorizes expenditures in accordance with established limitations, and approves purchases of materials and equipment.
Consults with faculty, managers, and staff to establish operating policies and procedures, including developing goals and objectives for both.
Ensures the provision of user-centered learning center services and library reference service, instruction, research assistance, circulation, technology, and collection development.
Coordinates the activities of the Library and the Learning Center to maximize student learning and access to resources, including the development of Student Learning Outcomes.
Collaborates with the campus community in the development and delivery of information competency instruction for the College.
Consults with faculty to direct the development of library and instructional materials and resources in support of classes and programs.
Oversees the acquisition, maintenance, and use of instructional equipment and library materials.
Oversees the development of the Accreditation Self-Study Standard on Library and Learning Support Services, Library and Learning Center program review documents, and the Library and Learning Resources Technology Plan.
Represents the Library and Learning Center on college governance committees as assigned; may serve as chair of the Library and Information Competency Committee.
Monitors and recommends solutions for issues involving the library building, physical facilities, and security.
Responds to and completes local, state, and national surveys.
Performs other duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA)accredited college or university.
Experience:
Three years of progressively responsible experience overseeing one or more library functional areas (e.g. Reference, Instruction, Public Services, or Technical Services) with one year in a supervisory capacity.
Desirable:
Graduate coursework beyond a Master’s degree, or a Doctorate degree in Library Science or a related field.
Prior library management experience in a community college or other post-secondary setting.
Active professional involvement in local, state, and national library and learning resources organizations.
Prior experience providing oversight for student learning resource operations.
Understanding of, and experience with, shared governance.
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices in the administration of library and learning resources programs.
Principles and practices of supervision.
Professional library principles, methods, and practices, including familiarity
with assessment and evaluation methods.
Emerging technologies and trends and their impact on traditional library and
learning resources and structure.
Word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation computer software.
Ability to:
Lead through demonstrating a commitment to collaboration and responsive
public service.
Advocate for information competency and the educational mission of libraries
and learning centers.
Select, develop, supervise and evaluate staff.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Analyze, interpret and apply laws, labor contracts, policies, rules and regulations.
Excel both independently and as a team member in a collaborative environment.
Develop and monitor a comprehensive program budget.
Plan and implement technological innovations.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
Problem solve effectively.
Use tact and discretion in a diverse multicultural and multiethnic public service environment.
Manage complex projects as needed.
Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
